Frequently Asked Questions

What is redundant internet connectivity?

Redundant connectivity uses more than one internet connection to reduce dependence on a single provider or connection path. If the primary connection becomes unavailable, the network can switch to an available backup connection when configured to do so.

Can you combine fiber, Starlink, and mobile 4G/5G?

Yes. A suitable Multi-WAN solution can use two Ethernet WAN connections for fiber internet and Starlink, together with built-in mobile connectivity. The exact configuration depends on the selected equipment and available services.

Can the system switch connections automatically?

Yes. Automatic failover can be configured to move traffic to an available connection when a preferred link fails. The behavior depends on the configuration and the system's ability to detect the failure.

Will users experience an interruption during failover?

A brief interruption may occur while the network detects a problem and switches connections. Some applications or active sessions may need to reconnect. The result depends on the network design and the applications being used.

Can all internet speeds be combined?

Not necessarily. Load balancing distributes traffic across connections according to configured rules, but it does not automatically combine all connection speeds for every individual application or session. Specialized bonding may be possible with compatible technology and additional service requirements.

Can backup power keep the network running for 24 hours?

Yes. We can design backup power with a target runtime of up to 24 hours.

The required battery capacity depends on the consumption of the equipment that must stay on. Whether the required runtime can be achieved is confirmed during the technical assessment.

The 24-hour runtime is a design target where supported by load and battery calculations, not a universal guarantee.

Does Starlink work as a backup connection?

Starlink can serve as an alternative connection where the service is available and the installation conditions are suitable. Performance and availability depend on the service, environmental conditions, and selected plan.

Can mobile 4G/5G be used as an additional backup?

Yes, provided suitable cellular coverage and a compatible service are available at the location.

Can you work with our existing network equipment?

In many cases, existing equipment can be incorporated into the solution if it is compatible with the required configuration. A technical assessment is needed to confirm compatibility.

Do you provide ongoing monitoring and support?

Monitoring and support can be included depending on the agreed service scope, supported equipment, and access arrangements.

Do you serve residential customers?

Optinet's website and service offering focus on businesses and government institutions in Kyiv.
